About the Author

Denise Lajimodiere is a Lakota writer and social worker. She was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Lajimodiere is a graduate of the University of South Dakota and the University of Minnesota. She has worked as a social worker for over 20 years, and she is currently the executive director of the Lakota Children's Enrichment Center.

Lajimodiere is the author of several books, including Wounded Memories: Growing Up Lakota and The Lakota Way: Stories and Lessons for Living. She is a frequent speaker at schools, universities, and conferences. Lajimodiere's work has been featured in numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times.
