Andy Russell is a nature writer, essayist, and professor. He is the author of several books, including Under the Stars: A Journey into the American Wilderness and In the Shadow of the Mountain: Nature Writing from the Southern Appalachians. His essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic, and many other publications. Russell is a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
