About the Author

Lieutenant Commander Michael Murphy was born in Smithtown, New York, in 1976. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000 and was commissioned as a SEAL officer. Murphy served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. He was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his actions during the Battle of Robert's Ridge. He is the first Navy SEAL to be awarded the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War.
