The Lewinsky Scandal

The Lewinsky scandal was a major political scandal that shook the United States in the late 1990s. The scandal began in 1995 when Monica Lewinsky, a 22-year-old White House intern, began an affair with President Bill Clinton. The affair lasted for two years and ended in 1997.

Tripp turned the tapes over to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, who was investigating Clinton for other matters. Starr's investigation led to Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives in 1998. Clinton was acquitted by the Senate in 1999.
